A total of 100 hackers and 75 hackers in training participated in the three-day event. Surprisingly, Black Hat USA and DEF CON security conferences were also held at the same time in Vegas.

HackerOne’s started this live event back in 2015 in Las Vegas, since then it has grown in number. This event is different from the on-going bug bounty program as they are in-person, i.e., both hacker and company’s security team work side by side to identify the vulnerability. According to the report, 30% of the flaws found in the Live event were high critical flaws.

During the three-day live event, hackers were also rewarded with awards. As three hackers won the top nightly honours and the Most Valuable Hacker, i.e., the event winner was “inhibitor181”. These awards are based on the number of threats reported by the hacker. h1-702 was Verizon Media’s 6th live hacking event in past two years, and this comes at a time when every major tech company such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft have its own bug bounty programs with increased reward.

The event was also home to the hackers-in-training mentorship program. 75 non-binary and women-identifying hackers were invited to get an experience of live hacking.
